Land lord and Tenancy Litigations

Landlord and tenancy litigations are legal actions taken when disputes between a landlord and tenant cannot be resolved, often stemming from issues like unpaid rent, lease violations, or evictions. These cases can be complex and costly, so initial steps should focus on informal methods like negotiation and mediation. If informal methods fail, a landlord or tenant may file a lawsuit, which can involve complex legal proceedings and may result in legally binding court orders.

Will drafting

Making a Will is something many people avoid, often thinking they don’t have enough assets or property to justify it, or simply postponing it until they’re older. However, regardless of your age or financial situation, creating a Will is essential to ensure your loved ones are cared for and your wishes are followed after you pass away.

Failing to plan ahead can cause unnecessary complications for your family and dependents, especially if you pass away unexpectedly or at a young age.

we guide our clients in creating clear and comprehensive Wills that reflect their true intentions. We work with you over the long term, regularly reviewing and updating your Will, especially when significant life changes occur such as marriage, divorce, or the birth of children.

Statutory declarations, affidavits, powers of attorney, deed polls

Statutory declarations and affidavits are written statements of fact used as evidence, while powers of attorney and deed polls are legal documents with different purposes: statutory declarations are written statements of truth declared before an authorized witness, affidavits are written statements of fact made under oath or affirmation, powers of attorney grant someone else authority to act on your behalf, and deed polls are legal documents used to formally change your name.

Land cases litigations

Land case litigations are legal disputes over land ownership, use, or boundaries, which can be resolved through the courts or other dispute resolution mechanisms like mediation. Common issues include fraudulent titles, boundary disagreements, and disputes between co-owners, with courts like the Land Division of the High Court often handling these cases. In some situations, litigation may proceed in national, regional, or even foreign courts, depending on factors like the location of the land and the accessibility of justice.

Consumer advocacy litigation

Consumer advocacy litigation refers to legal actions brought by consumers or government entities against businesses that violate consumer protection laws. These lawsuits aim to hold companies accountable for unfair or deceptive practices, seeking remedies like financial compensation, and can be filed individually or as a class action lawsuit to address harms from issues such as false advertising, data breaches, and defective products.

Entertainment litigation

Entertainment litigation involves resolving legal disputes within the entertainment, media, and sports industries through court proceedings or other dispute resolution methods. It covers a wide range of issues, including copyright infringement, contract breaches, defamation, profit participation disputes, and intellectual property rights. This field often involves various parties, such as major studios, networks, talent, and tech companies.

Family Law

Family law is the area of law that deals with domestic and family-related matters, including issues such as marriage, divorce, child custody, adoption, and domestic violence. It aims to resolve disputes and create legal frameworks for family relationships, often with the primary goal of ensuring the best interests of children are met. The specifics of family law vary by jurisdiction and are often governed by a combination of statutes, common law, and customary law.

Mediation and Arbitration

Mediation and arbitration are both alternative dispute resolution methods where a neutral third party helps resolve a conflict outside of court. The key difference is that mediation is a non-binding process where a facilitator helps the parties reach their own mutually agreeable settlement, while arbitration is a more formal process where a neutral arbitrator acts like a judge and makes a binding decision for the parties.

Intellectual property litigations

Intellectual property (IP) litigation is the legal process for resolving disputes over intellectual property rights, such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. It involves lawsuits where one party alleges infringement of their IP rights by another party and can result in remedies like injunctions to stop the infringing activity or monetary damages. The process can be lengthy, costly, and stressful, and may involve different venues like federal and state courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), or administrative bodies like the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Disability benefit recovery, defence, and litigation

Disability benefit recovery, defence, and litigation in Uganda involve processes to claim entitlements, challenge denials, and enforce rights for persons with disabilities (PWDs) under a framework prioritizing inclusion, rehabilitation, and socio-economic support. Benefits aim to mitigate barriers from physical, mental, sensory, or intellectual impairments, aligning with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which Uganda ratified in 2008. Key entitlements include invalidity pensions via the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and the National Special Grant (NSG) for income support. Litigation often invokes human rights remedies for discriminatory denials. As of November 10, 2025, claims have risen 18% due to post-COVID assessments (per MGLSD data), with courts increasingly applying the “best interests” test in disputes.

Succession management and litigation

Succession management is the strategic planning for the smooth transition of leadership and ownership in a business, while litigation refers to the legal disputes that can arise if such a plan is poorly executed or absent. A robust succession plan, including clearly defined legal documents like buy-sell agreements, wills, and trusts, minimizes the risk of conflicts, disputes, and expensive litigation by providing a clear roadmap for ownership and management transfer.

Insurance litigations

Insurance litigations are legal proceedings that resolve disputes between policyholders and insurance companies, typically over claim denials, payment delays, or disagreements about policy coverage. These disputes require legal analysis of insurance policies and laws to determine each party’s rights and obligations, and can involve the policyholder suing the insurer, the insurer suing the policyholder, or either party suing a third party.

Government based cases litigation

Government-based litigation cases involve legal disputes where a government entity (local, state, or federal) is a party, either as the plaintiff (bringing the suit) or the defendant (being sued). These cases differ from private litigation due to unique procedural rules, specific statutes that define when a government can be sued (like the Government Proceedings Act in Uganda), and the involvement of public interest and resources.

Debt settlement, defence, and recovery litigation

Debt settlement, defence, and recovery litigation in Uganda addresses disputes over unpaid obligations, balancing creditors’ rights to enforcement with debtors’ protections against unfair practices. It encompasses negotiations to resolve debts amicably (settlement), challenges to validity or enforceability (defence), and judicial processes for collection (recovery). Governed by the Contracts Act, 2010, Civil Procedure Act (Cap. 71), Limitation Act (Cap. 80, 6-year prescription for simple contracts), Insolvency Act, 2011, and sectoral regulations (e.g., Bank of Uganda’s microfinance guidelines), the framework promotes ADR to reduce court burdens. The High Court’s Commercial Division handles most claims over UGX 50 million, while Magistrates’ Courts manage smaller ones. As of November 10, 2025, rising digital lending and economic pressures have spiked cases by 20% (per Judiciary statistics), with emphasis on data privacy in recovery tactics.
